Therefore, we will show you how to set the default category to your posts in WordPress. The default post category lets you select the category to be applied to posts so that you don’t always have to remember to assign different categories before publishing
How to assign a default category in WordPress
To assign a default category to your posts in WordPress, start by opening your WordPress dashboard. You see the word ‘Settings’ in the vertical list of words running down the left side of the homepage.
Click or hover over ‘Settings’ and you will see several categories to choose from.
Click ‘Writing’.
Look at ‘Default Post Category’. Here you can assign a default category to your posts. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click ‘Save Changes’ to save the changes that you made.
You can also easily change your default post format here. You can for example change from a standard post type to an image post type or a video post type, etcetera.
